Our Goals
Our stance: Israel is complex country, stirring strong emotions, perpetually on the world's diplomatic agenda, and featuring prominently in world media coverage. The goal of the Beyond Images project is to step back - to promote informed understanding of Israel's rights, context, values and ideals. And to combat some half-truths and falsehoods which have taken root. Our approach is to argue rationally and humanely for the legitimate rights of all the peoples of the region, and to promote non-partisan perspectives of Israel, which can create common ground betweene people of different standpoints. We'd like you to come away from reading Beyond Images energised to learn more, and to engage in ways that benefit the peoples of the region.
How did Beyond Images come about? The content was written over a period of 10 years - 2002-2012 - by Andrew White, as the second Palestinian intifada unfolded, and the challenges to Israel from Iran, Hamas and Hizbollah intensified. Andrew acted out of a sense of responsibility to place events in context. And at the same time to 'shine a light' on Israel's values and ideals beyond the conflict, enabling readers to see beyond the media headlines - 'beyond images'.
Standing the test of time: Much has happened since 2012 when the content of the site was completed. Yet, many core issues have stayed the same. The content has "stood the test of time". From Palestinian rights to Hamas and Hizbollah; from terrorism and the security fence to the right of return and Jerusalem; from Lebanon to Iran, and international law to the settlements; from humanitarian relief to Israel's Arab citizens; from the milestone events of 1948 and 1967 to the two-state negotiations of the 1990s and 2000s - and so much more.... we aim to open your eyes on this website with facts, perspectives, arguments and narratives to refresh and deepen your understanding.
